Pol, local biz host prom wear giveaway

Over the weekend, State Senator Leroy Comrie hosted a prom wear giveaway for high school students in southeast Queens.

The event was in collaboration with community members, local businesses and nonprofit organizations.

“Prom is an important milestone for high school students, but the costs associated with it can be high,” Comrie said. “No young man or woman should ever feel like they cannot experience it simply because it is too expensive.”

The high schoolers were given the opportunity to choose from new and gently-used dresses and suits, all of which were donated by local businesses or community members.

They were also treated to haircuts from local barbers and stylists.
